The Woods Monkey Kerf Carver Is the Tiny Fixed Blade You Didn’t Know You Needed

The Woods Monkey Kerf Carver is a small knife. It’s only 6 inches overall with a 2 inch blade and it only tips the scales at 4.1 ounces. But don’t let that fool you. This knife can land blows far outside of its weight class. 

This little knife is a lot like the Mora Eldris in terms of size, weight, and ergonomics, but being an LT Wright Knife, it has a few other tricks up its sleeve.

Let’s start with the blade. It’s AEB-L tool steel, and it sports a straight back configuration with a Scandi grind, not unlike the other blade invoked. AEB-L boasts pretty good corrosion resistance and carbide distribution, which makes it great as a survival knife. 

With just a bit of care and foresight, the blade won’t rust, and on top of that, the steel can take a really fine edge and hold it well without being utterly impossible to resharpen. 

The rounded handle contours of the Woods Monkey Kerf Carver are also another win. It indexes well in a variety of grips and produces no hotspots, making it exceptionally comfortable. 

The Scandi grind is relatively easy to maintain with a flat stone, and the small size of the blade makes it excellent for detail work. The Woods Monkey Kerf Carver can do a lot of things, but perhaps its best application is insinuated by the name. It is an excellent carver and ideal for making camp tools and furniture. 

That being the case, the knife is also good for firecraft and cleaning small harvests, so even though it is primarily a carver, don’t sell it short. 

Some come with scales made of a material called Tero Tuff, which is made of polyester resin infused fabric, so basically it’s like Micarta but just has another name. Others are outfitted with G10, and it’s available in several different colorways.

This makes it comfortable to handle in a wide variety of conditions, even when the knife is cold, wet or greasy, and the scales themselves will also basically never need any maintenance or special care. 

Another big selling point of the knife is the sheath; it comes with a leather sheath that adds class to the knife. 

All in all, this may be a tiny knife but it is the sort of thing you could carry for a while and get so used to that if you ever stopped carrying it you’d feel naked. That’s a good knife to have.
